Right. I believe Max's point is if "login" no longer has to be an email
address, but it's just a unique account identifier, then it's
effectively got the same semantics as extern_id.

I'm not sure he's right, but that's his argument.

Can your users also log in using their email address, or only using the
LDAP-backed method?
