I'll give you a direct example of this. :)

When I'm the on-call sysadmin at Mozilla, and someone files a bug in the 
Server Ops component with a critical or blocker severity, our monitoring 
system will notice the bug and page me with the bug number and summary. 
  If I'm not in front of a computer at the time, it'd be *really* useful 
to be able to check and find out what the bug is about (sometimes people 
write pretty useless summaries) to see if it really needed to be 
critical or not before I drop whatever I'm involved in and travel 
somewhere to find a computer.
