In my view, this feature sucks rocks, and is a maintenance hassle. The 
number of bugs which have ever taken advantage of it can be counted on 
the fingers of one hand. I say we remove it entirely.

Having said that, I don't see great value in this idea generally - but 
I'm not going to stop someone else coding it :-)
