Couldn't the keywords and flags functionalities be cleanly integrated? 
The dissimilarity of their interfaces seems wrong.

Agreed.  I like the SW as a free-form area.  What do you see the niches 
for keywords and flags?  We need something to put in the docs that says 
"this is why you should use one in circumstance A and the other in 
circumstance B and either in curcumstance C, etc."

What can keywords do that flags can't?  Ignore the current interface.
