Client libraries for Bugzilla

I'm looking to query bugzilla.kernel.org (the aim is to get the data for all the 18k odd bugs out there) -- I thought I'd quickly use a python/perl client library to the REST api to do this, but alas neither python-bugzilla nor BZ::Client seem to work for me. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Before I put out specific error messages that I get, I had the feeling that these libraries were not being maintained anymore.

what's an easy way for me to go about doing this? I'm new to bugzilla, so excuses in advance if I'm being dumb!
