Invalid statuses in search now ignored rather than honoured?

In 3.6 and 3.7, this produces Zarro Boogs.

In current tip, this produces one bug (bug 1).

In other words, bogus bug statuses are no longer being treated as valid, 
but (I presume) are being validated against the list and the parameter 
is totally dropped if they do not pass. This leads to the above change 
of behaviour.

Can I ask: is this an intentional change?
