(I know this issue has now become a bug, but...)

This suggestion worries me slightly. Not because it wouldn't work, but
because I think we are going to have issues working with the wider Perl
community if, when they say "hey, this standard thing doesn't work", we
say "oh, that's OK, you can just do it our way instead".

I'm not saying you meant to be rude, or that you have some
anti-cooperation agenda. And I know you made other comments too - this
wasn't your only response. I just wanted to politely raise the point for
consideration.
