	No reason. I never saw the hook code until long after it went
in, as I recall.

	A Perl module would probably make more sense. Of course, I'm
not sure we'd want everything in one file, but that's not a strict
limitation.

	Well, one way or another, it really ought to be less
confusing. :-) That's my only thought on it at the moment. And it ought
to be consistent, somehow.
