3.0 upgrade - checksetup.pl etc.

Hi, 

I am migrating a bugzilla 2.22 application to 3.0.2 and noticed lots of
changes. For example, the checksetup.pl no longer deals with the
creating of admin any more, all the LDAP stuff has been relocated to the
contrib/ folder. And I just began the migration and have already
encountered some sort of branching of codes. Is that because of a total
new design? Are there any design documents out there that will help me
to get a overall developer view of the upgrade?
