What are bugs? Are bugs really work items?

Can't vouch for anyone else, but I just started reading this thread 
tonight.  The subject line didn't quite expose that the content of the 
thread was urgent, and I was putting it off until I had more time to sit 
down and read for a while because of the number of posts in the thread 
already.
