Sorry all - problem fixed.  I have to admit, being new can present special
challenges.  I wonder, does it make sense to add notes to the add product
screen to make sure new admins know to add components so they will be able
to post bugs to their new products?  I think it would help new
administrators like myself to understand how things work a little
easier/more quickly.

No, IIRC the versioncache is regenerated any time you try to read it and it
doesn't exist, or when you alter a product. Take a look at globals.pl,
which holds the functions that manipulate it -- GenerateVersionTable in
particular.
