I actually think that this is a bad idea - not because I've some vested 
interest, but for the good of the code. If there's a fork, it takes the 
pressure off us to make our processes better, to improve and be more 
responsive. It divides effort and duplicates work.

Forking should be a last resort measure. The grass is not always greener 
on the other side of the fence.
