I agree.  I wouldn't shed a tear to never see what we're discussing 
implemented outside of custom fields.  Matty's original diatribe just got 
me thinking about the need for keywords to die.  Given any reasonable 
implementation of custom fields the impact on performance for eliminating 
the current keywords and flags particularly would be very near zero.
