Can the bug list be sorted based on a custom field

[usmle Prep]

Hi Gerv,
Thanks for your response. Actually it's not a user
question. We are using 2.16.1 and we are unable to 
sort based on customfields. When I tried to sort based
on custom fields, it's throwing an error
"The custom sort order you specified in your form
submission contains an invalid column name
bcf26.value."
Do you know how to implement sorting on custom fields.
