searching on 'CC' or 'Added Comment' fields

in our installation of bugzilla (forked between 2.17.3 and 2.17.4) i've
noticed strange things when i search for email addresses and select 'CC'
or 'Commenter" along with some other field ("Submitter", for instance).

when i try this on b.m.o, i get a nice error message:

"You are searching on a combination of email fields that will not return
a result due to a bug in Bugzilla's database software. When searching on
the CC or Added comment fields, do not search on other email fields at
the same time."

great. this error doesn't occur on my installation, but the values it
returns are wrong. can anyone point me to this bug in b.m.o? does anyone
know where the bug lies? even better, anyone know when the bug was
fixed?
