I think you're right.  Unfortunately my time is very limited so I may not
be able to contribute too much right now.  We may just live with this hack
for now, then switch to using this feature if it makes it into 2.18.x as
it is now targetted.  At that point if it's not doing fuzzy-matching, I
might try to add that to it.
