Actually, having tried out drop-down lists on a site with a few hundred 
users, I suspect that the right approach is in  
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162990 coupled with 
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145499#c4.

This would be a good thing to ask Zippy about.  I suspect that they have 
the same requirement.

As far as the issue of restricting the pattern match so that not all 
users can spot each other by pattern match, I had presumed that this was 
more of a localization for my site.  Is this something of more general 
interest?
