If you've been following our X (formerly Twitter) or Mastodon accounts,
you'll have been seeing status updates occasionally. But I haven't
posted elsewhere in a while and I wanted to make sure everyone knew what
was going on.
At the point I made my last set of announcements on this list, I was
under the impression that we probably only had a week or two of work
remaining to get version 5.2 and its companion releases out the door.
Unfortunately, as I started diving into the commit logs to get the
release notes ready, I discovered we were much further from release than
I thought. 150 hours of working on Bugzilla later, I think we're
honestly back to the "couple weeks away" point for real now. I'm still
having to fit this in during my free time around my real job. Getting a
developer hired (might be me) so we can have someone dedicated to
working on Bugzilla is high on the wish list.
Remaining release blockers:
*
4.4.14: 9 bugs
*
5.0.4.1: 8 bugs
*
5.2: 15 bugs
*
5.3.3: 6 bugs
*
5.9.1: 13 bugs
*
Total: 35 bugs (many of them affect multiple branches, so show up
multiple times in the above list)
I'd like to say it'll be a Christmas present, but the IT Guy in me says
we shouldn't release it during the holidays, so we'll spend the extra
time polishing it and hopefully release it in the first week of January.
I'm very thankful to the many people who collectively donated $3411 so
far towards our startup costs for the new non-profit. We still need
another $239 to finish paying off those costs. We need that money by
December 21 to be able to make the last payment on our startup loan on time.
We also have $237 worth of monthly recurring donations, which will more
than pay for our hosting costs, and is a step towards the $4000 monthly
we would need to be able to start paying a permanent developer.
If you think you can help (even a few dollars) towards either of those
goals, head over tohttps://bugzilla.org/donate <https://bugzilla.org/donate>
As always, you can get more frequent updates by following us on X or
Mastodon:

We also stream occasionally on Twitch and YouTube (work sessions, bug
triage parties, etc) :

And for the quickest answers to your questions, we have chat rooms on
IRC, Matrix, and Discord which you can find listed on
https://www.bugzilla.org/support/ <https://www.bugzilla.org/support/>.
If you prefer email, the support mailing list is listed on that same page.
I'm looking forward to a very fruitful 2024.
