From dkl at mozilla.com Wed Apr 18 22:22:13 2012 From: dkl at mozilla.com (David Lawrence) Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2012 15:22:13 -0700 Subject: [ANN] Release of Bugzilla 4.3.1, 4.2.1, 4.0.6, and 3.6.9 Message-ID: <4F8F3E95.6070703@mozilla.com> Today we are releasing 4.2.1, 4.0.6, 3.6.9, and the unstable development snapshot 4.3.1. All of today's releases contain security fixes. We recommend all Bugzilla administrators to read the Security Advisory linked below. Bugzilla 4.2.1 is our latest stable release. It contains various useful bug fixes, performance improvements and security fixes for the 4.2 branch. Bugzilla 4.0.6 and 3.6.9 are security updates for the 4.0 branch and the 3.6 branch, respectively. Note that 4.3.1 is an unstable development release and should not be used in production environments. We are not yet feature-frozen at this time so the features you see in 4.3.1 might not accurately represent the behavior that 4.4 will have. Note that when Bugzilla 4.4 is released (likely later this year), the Bugzilla 3.6.x series will reach end of life. If you are using that series, we encourage you to upgrade to 4.2.1 now. Defect Tracking Systems allow individuals or groups of developers to keep track of outstanding bugs in their product effectively. Most commercial defect-tracking software vendors charge enormous licensing fees. Despite being "free", Bugzilla has many features its expensive counterparts lack. Consequently, Bugzilla has quickly become a favorite of thousands of organizations across the globe, and is widely regarded as one of the top defect-tracking systems available. The following security issues have been discovered in Bugzilla: * When abusing the X-FORWARDED-FOR header, an attacker could bypass the lockout policy allowing a possible brute-force discovery of a valid user password. * An attacker can get access to some bug information using the victim's credentials using a specially crafted HTML page. All affected installations are encouraged to upgrade as soon as possible. Vulnerability Details ===================== Class: Unauthorized Access Versions: 3.5.3 to 3.6.8, 3.7.1 to 4.0.5, 4.1.1 to 4.2 Fixed In: 3.6.9, 4.0.6, 4.2.1 Description: Due to a lack of proper validation of the X-FORWARDED-FOR header of an authentication request, an attacker could bypass the current lockout policy used for protection against brute-force password discovery. This vulnerability can only be exploited if the 'inbound_proxies' parameter is set. To be exploitable, the victim must be logged in when visiting the attacker's malicious page. Upgrading to a release with the relevant fixes will protect your installation from possible exploits of these issues. If you are unable to upgrade but would like to patch just these individual security vulnerabilities, there are patches available for the issues at the "References" URL for each vulnerability.
